Steven was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island on October 3, 2011 and May 4, 2015. He was interim leader of the PEI Progressive Conservative Party and Opposition Leader of the PEI Progressive Conservative party from January, 2013 to October, 2015.

Steven has extensive community experience as President of both Cardigan Minor Ball, and Montague Minor Hockey.  He was Chair of both the Cardigan Ball Field Renovations Committee and the 2011 Midget Female Atlantics Host Committee as well as serving as a board member of the Cardigan Communities Development Association and the PEI Minor Hockey Council.

Steven lives in Cardigan Head with his wife Lori, and their two children.
