Home renovation program changes a needed improvement: Fox
CHARLOTTETOWN – Changes announced today to provincial home renovation programs are a needed improvement, says Opposition Leader Jamie Fox.
“The way the program was set up before was on a first come, first serve basis. That wasn't very fair and didn't see the supports always reach those in greatest need. Making the program more accessible and effective is an issue that the Opposition has pressed this government on for years so I’m pleased to see government taking steps in that direction,” said Fox.
Fox went on to say that with an aging population that the need for fair, adequate and accessible support from the PEI Home Renovation Programs will only increase in the future. Having a more effective menu of programs would also enable more Islanders to maintain their independence by living longer in their own homes.
“Year after year demand for these programs has outstripped supply. I hope that along with making the programs more accessible that government also properly funds the program so that the resources are there to meet the need from Islanders,” Fox concluded.
