Aylward pleased with eGaming review progress at Public Accounts Committee

Stratford  – Public Accounts Committee Chair James Aylward is pleased with the progress being made reviewing the Auditor General’s Report into the eGaming scandal.

“The Auditor General’s Report on the eGaming scandal lays out a complex maze of secret transactions and activities designed to skirt accountability, transparency and public oversight. The work of the Auditor General gives a foundation for understanding what actions government took and through the work of our committee more light is slowly being shed on why those actions were taken,” says Aylward.

At this week’s meeting of the Public Accounts Committee several motions from Opposition members of the committee were approved to build on the work done by the Auditor General’s Office, including:·         Requests for additional documents related to the failed project;

- More detailed information on individuals, government officials, businesses and organizations involved;

- Call for additional witnesses with direct knowledge of what transpired to appear before the committee, including former Chief of Staff Chris LeClair and former Deputy Minister Melissa MacEachern.

“Some of the Opposition motions approved by our Committee would not have been possible to be passed without additional support. So I’m pleased that West Royalty-Springvale MLA Bush Dumville voted with Opposition MLA’s on the committee to allow extra witnesses to be called with direct knowledge of what took place. I think that speaks to how seriously this issue is and the determination to get answers for Islanders,” says Aylward.
