Budget not much of a departure from past budgets: Lantz

CHARLOTTETOWN –   The provincial budget tabled today is not much of a departure from the past budgets tabled by this government, and makes unrealistic assumptions about revenue growth, said Progressive Conservative Leader Rob Lantz.

“This government continues to rely heavily on increased taxes and fees paid by hardworking Islanders. They are projecting an additional $35 million in revenues from the pockets of Islanders this year, by way of income taxes, sales taxes, property taxes gasoline taxes and health taxes.”

Lantz noted another factor in deficit projections is an all-time high of $633 million in federal government funding will flow to the province this coming year.

“Often with this government the true tale of the finances is not actually revealed on budget day but rather as the budget estimates are considered. Our Caucus will be working to get a better sense of the province’s true financial picture as the estimates are reviewed,” said Lantz.
