Environment and energy in spotlight for PC Caucus

Charlottetown  – Protection of the Island’s water resources and tax incentives to promote more energy efficiency were on the agenda for Opposition PC MLA’s in the Legislature today.

“Our water is our most precious resource and should be treated as a public resource instead of a commodity to be exploited for profit. That’s why our PC Caucus was pushing the MacLauchlan government to legislate protections for our water from commercial export and deep water wells into a new Water Act. We also urged the government to look at tax incentives in their new energy strategy to increase energy efficiency for home heating and transportation,” says Opposition Leader Jamie Fox.

Opposition PC MLA’s Jamie Fox, Brad Trivers, and Matthew MacKay pressed the MacLauchlan government around infrastructure priorities, measures to improve water protection, open data and ways to improve energy efficiency in home heating and transportation through the new provincial energy strategy. Fox grilled Transportation and Energy Minister Paula Biggar over the Cornwall Bypass project while Rustico-Emerald MLA Brad Trivers put forward ideas on water protection to Environment Minister Robert Mitchell and Kensington-Malpeque MLA Matthew MacKay pressed Transportation and Energy Minister Paula Biggar on ways to use tax incentives to make  energy efficient home heating and vehicles more affordable.
