Interim President Appointed

Charlottetown, PE

June 6, 2017

The Executive of the Progressive Conservative Association of Prince Edward Island is pleased to announce that Margaret Anne Walsh has been appointed Interim President.  Ms. Walsh was introduced to Party Members last night at the monthly Provincial Council meeting.

“There is a growing level of excitement and optimism in the Party,” said Ms. Walsh.  “With the solid performance of our MLA’s in the recent Spring Sitting of the Legislature, the success of our Spring Fundraising Dinner, the kickoffs of campaigns to elect a new Party Leader, and the work being done by our Committees, Members are engaged and working towards a common goal.  I am pleased to take on a larger role in this process and thank the Executive for their vote of confidence in me by appointing me as the Interim President.”

This appointment fills the vacancy created when Pat Banks resigned from the role of Party President after he moved away from Prince Edward Island. In replacing Mr. Banks, the Executive encouraged Members of the Association who were interested in the role of President to put their names forward for consideration.  This process resulted in a slate of quality candidates from which the Executive voted and selected the Party’s new President.

“We were encouraged by the number of people who stepped forward and showed interest in the position of Party President; this is a positive sign for any Association,” notes Executive Director Craig Davidson.  “With the quality of candidates presented to the Executive, the future of the Progressive Conservative Association of Prince Edward Island is very bright indeed.”

“Our first priority is to organize a successful Leadership Convention this October – we have one candidate who has already announced and expect to have more candidates step forward in the very near future.  We will also work towards our Annual General Meeting taking place at the same time as the Convention and will continue to prepare and plan for a general election in the next 18 to 24 months” adds Ms. Walsh. “By listening to and respecting our Members, and all Islanders, and by honouring our vision, mission statement and core values, we are demonstrating that we are ready to form a responsible and responsive government.
