Lack of Cabinet vetting process has consequences: Lantz

CHARLOTTETOWN –  The lack of an effective vetting process for the new MacLauchlan Cabinet has resulted in real consequences for Islanders, says Progressive Conservative Leader Rob Lantz.
Lantz made his comments in reaction to the resignation from Cabinet of Education, Early Learning and Culture Minister Tina Mundy.
“It’s clear that there was little to no vetting process in place to flag potential issues with members of Cabinet. This has led to an embarrassing situation for the new government that has real consequences for Islanders,” says Lantz.
Lantz pointed out that the Cabinet swearing in took place sixteen days after the election which gave ample time for a proper vetting of all potential members of Cabinet. Following the 2011 provincial election a new Cabinet was sworn in fifteen days afterwards.
“Due to this unfortunate situation there are fewer female voices around the Cabinet table having gone from two female members out of nine to just one, despite having two other female government MLA’s to choose from. Now there is also no Cabinet representation for the City of Summerside, the Island’s second largest community, despite having another member from Summerside to choose from,” Lantz says.
