Lantz announces future plans

CHARLOTTETOWN –  Progressive Conservative Leader Rob Lantz today announced his intention to remain as party leader at a news conference with his Caucus.

Lantz made the announcement after extensive consultations over the past week following last Monday’s provincial election. Lantz consulted with his Caucus, the provincial and district executives, and numerous Islanders both inside and outside the party before announcing his decision.

The provincial election results are not what we had hoped for and I take full responsibility for that,” says Lantz. “When I ran for the leadership I made a commitment to myself, my family, our party and Islanders to help make our province a better place to live, work, and invest. I intend to fulfill that commitment.”

Lantz also announced that following consultations with Caucus that MLA’s Steven Myers, James Aylward and Colin LaVie will continue to serve in their previous roles as Opposition Leader, Opposition House Leader, and Opposition Whip respectively.

“We experienced growth in the election and now have an expanded Caucus that it is a good mix of experience and new energy. By having Steven, James and Colin continue in their previous roles it will provide continuity for our expanded Caucus and give our new members an opportunity to adjust to their new roles,” said Lantz.

Further Shadow Cabinet appointments for individual portfolios will be announced in the coming weeks.

Quick Facts:

  • The party experienced growth in both the popular vote and in the number of MLA’s elected.

  • The Opposition Caucus grew from three to eight members with the potential to grow that total pending recounts in certain districts.

  • In five districts (Districts 5,13,15,21, 22) the margin of defeat for Progressive Conservative candidates was 148 votes or less.
