Lantz releases primary industries platform

April 21, 2015 (FRENCHFORT) – Progressive Conservative Party Leader Rob Lantz today released his party’s primary industries platform at a news conference in Frenchfort.
 
Lantz noted that the primary industries of fishing, farming and tourism are huge economic generators and underpin the province’s manufacturing and export sectors.

Lantz detailed plans to build partnerships between the primary industries and bioscience sector and the private sector to increase research and development, develop new export markets, create higher returns for producers and attract more visitors to the Island.

● Highlights of the platform include:

 - Strengthen the partnerships between the bioscience sector and our primary sectors to grow the economy, increasing returns for producers.

 - An Island Food First strategy to increase the use of locally grown food in public institutions like schools, hospitals and manors.

 - Encourage the private sector and co-ops to develop lobster holding facilities, giving fishers more market flexibility.

 - Work with industry and the federal government to develop new markets in Europe and Asia opened by free trade deals.

 -  Work with the Charlottetown Airport Authority and the private sector to add capacity and competition through innovations such as new package deals, charters, and flight paths.

 -  Build on strengths in the tourism sector including meetings and conventions, cruise ship development, and sports, event and cultural products.
