Larger Cabinet reflects disarray in government: Opposition
CHARLOTTETOWN – Premier Wade MacLauchlan’s fourth Cabinet shuffle since becoming Premier is a reflection of the ongoing disarray in government, says Opposition Leader Jamie Fox.
“Today’s Cabinet shuffle is the fourth shuffle by the Premier in ten months,” said Fox. “That’s highly unusual for a government, especially when it involves the two largest portfolios of health and education.”
Fox pointed to the fact that the Ghiz administration shuffled its Cabinet a total of four times in eight years while this marks the fourth shuffle in ten months by Premier MacLauchlan. Fox also noted that this latest shuffle grows the size of Cabinet at a time when programs and services for the public are being cut.
“What we are hearing from the public and the public service is a concern that more and more power is being centralized in the Premier’s hands. There’s also a growing sense that government is a one man show so who sits around the Cabinet table doesn’t really matter,” said Fox.
