New Cabinet faces challenges: Lantz

CHARLOTTETOWN –  The new MacLauchlan Cabinet faces significant challenges ahead, says Progressive Conservative Leader Rob Lantz.

“This new Cabinet will face many challenges in short order, not least of which is a poor financial position. With major restructuring of government services will come additional unexpected costs and uncertainty in the public service,” said Lantz.

Lantz noted that in the absence of audited financial statements prior to the election the public will have to wait for the next budget to get a true picture of the province’s finances.

At present, the province’s 3rd Quarter fiscal update showed a deficit of over $35 million through nine months of the most recent fiscal year. For the 4th Quarter, Special Warrants totaling $58.3 million in spending outside the budget were approved by Cabinet between January and the end of March.
