Opposition statement on Cabinet shuffle
Charlottetown – Opposition Leader Jamie Fox today made the following statement on the MacLauchlan government Cabinet shuffle:
“Today’s changes to the Cabinet are the clearest sign yet of a tired, third term government in turmoil that has lost its way in the face of scandal and public opposition to its school closure plans.
For over a month now this government has told Islanders that the five schools up for closure are too expensive to operate at a combined cost of $500,000 annually. Now we have the Premier creating a new government department out of the blue with no budget that will likely cost far more than that. How does that make any sense?
It’s clear to Islanders that we have government by crisis management but the problem is that this government keeps creating more crises.
I want to thank Richard Brown for his service in Cabinet and congratulate Sonny Gallant and Pat Murphy on their new appointments. Mr. Murphy has been a staunch opponent of the MacLauchlan school closure plan and the people of West Prince certainly are expecting Mr. Murphy to not change that view now that the Premier has put him in Cabinet.”
Fox added that Georgetown-St. Peters MLA Steven Myers has been assigned additional critic responsibilities for the newly created portfolio of Rural and Regional Development. Mr. Myers will also continue as Opposition Education Critic.
