PC Party announces leadership selection date and location
Charlottetown – The Progressive Conservative party will select a new party leader on October 20th, 2017, PEI PC Party President Pat Banks announced today.
“At our AGM last fall we announced that we would be holding a leadership selection process in 2017 and that we would update Islanders as those plans develop so I’m very pleased to be sharing the next steps in that process with Islanders today,” says Banks. Banks announced today that the leadership selection process will begin on April 3rd when nominations for candidates will open and conclude on October 20th as part of the party’s Annual General Meeting being held in Brudenell.
During the party’s last leadership process in 2015 a number of innovations were introduced, including early voting, mail in balloting and a preferential ballot. Banks said that these innovations will be continued along with the introduction of further innovations to give Islanders a greater voice in the democratic process.
“Our party executive and volunteers are hard at work finalizing preparations for our leadership selection process and I’m excited at the progress to date and the enthusiasm being generated as we continue to organize and prepare for the next election to replace the tired, old MacLauchlan government,” said Interim Party Leader Jamie Fox.
Banks indicated that further details around rules, logistics, and other key information will be released over the coming weeks.
