Prince County Hospital needs a champion after years of neglect

Summerside – The Prince County Hospital needs an MLA that will be a champion for the health care needs of Summerside after years of government neglect.

“Prince County Hospital is very important to the health care of families in Summerside. There are many needs at PCH that have been neglected despite years of lobbying government by the hospital and the hospital foundation. That’s why Summerside-Wilmot needs an MLA who isn’t afraid to stand up for Summerside and be a champion for our hospital and the services it provides the community,” said Summerside-Wilmot Progressive Conservative candidate Brian Ramsay.

The Opposition PC Caucus has repeatedly pressed the MacLauchlan government over long-standing challenges at the Prince County Hospital. Among the issues are reduced surgical services, excessive wait times for specialists, lack of access to ambulatory services, bed pressures created by a lack of seniors housing spaces, safety issues with the helipad, and attempts to cut dialysis services.

“The Prince County Hospital has challenges that have been ignored for years by the MacLauchlan government. There wasn’t a single word about the hospital in the Capital Budget, the Throne Speech or the Liberal platform in the last election. The Premier only seemed to remember that there are problems at PCH after Janice Sherry quit his Caucus. We know that more is spent on out-of-province health services each year than is spent at PCH. Unfortunately Island women will still have to travel off-Island for fertility treatment services in spite of today’s announcement,” said Stratford Kinlock MLA and Opposition Health Critic James Aylward.
