Public Inquiry into eGaming needed immediately

Charlottetown  – Opposition Leader Jamie Fox is demanding that Premier Wade MacLauchlan immediately call a public inquiry to get to the bottom of issues left outstanding by the Auditor General's Report into the eGaming scandal.

"Islanders are justifiably sickened and outraged at the latent corruption and reckless abuse of tax dollars shown by this government. ‎The refusal to fully cooperate with the Auditor General by the MacLauchlan government and its secret business partners is galling. It's now clear that the only way that Islanders will get to the bottom of this scandal is through a public inquiry," said Opposition Leader Jamie Fox.

The release of the Auditor General’s Report into the eGaming scandal this week was a scathing indictment of the government’s fiscal and ethical incompetence. The Auditor General’s Report clearly shows a litany of abuses and gross negligence with the use of millions of tax dollars as it pursued its secretive eGaming scheme. Chief among those financial and ethical abuses were: ·

*Secret loans involving millions of tax dollars that were hidden from public oversight;

*Conflicts of Interest involving multiple senior government executives and Premier’s Office staff;

*Unlawful destruction of files, documents and communications

*A lack of cooperation with the Auditor General’s Office by several government departments during the audit, including departments led by Premier MacLauchlan

The Auditor General’s Report also detailed a lack of cooperation from government and its partners in the secret deal to fully cooperate with the Auditor General’s Audit in her investigation.

"Islanders are expecting leadership and they are not seeing it in the ongoing cover-up by the MacLauchlan government. If the Premier is truly open and accountable he will publicly commit today to hold a Public Inquiry into the eGaming scandal and coverup and let the chips fall where they may. If he does not, then Islanders will know that this government does not respect taxpayers and what this Premier really thinks of Islanders. We expect the Premier's answer by the end of the day," stated Fox.
