Rally shows MacLauchan government out of touch on health care: Opposition

Souris – An outpouring of community anxiety in Eastern Kings shows how out of touch the MacLauchlan government is from Islanders on health care issues, says the Official Opposition.

“I was very disappointed that the Premier and the Health Minister couldn’t be bothered to attend a public meeting with over 500 Islanders about health care,” said Stratford-Kinlock  MLA and Opposition Health Critic James Aylward. “It certainly doesn’t send the message that the government is engaged or listening to community concerns.”

More than 500 residents of Eastern Kings attended a public meeting to discuss ongoing health care issues in the area. Chief among those are a reduced doctor complement for the area that is impacting access for citizens and placing stress on existing health services. A community advocacy group released a study at the meeting detailing structural issues in health care delivery in Eastern Kings.

“The community has been trying to work with government on these issues for a long time and they’re frustrated at not being listened to. The Premier came to Souris to  make big promises during the election but now he’s too busy to follow through on those promises. The Premier has no problem flying to Paris or India but he can’t come to Souris? If the Premier and Health Minister didn’t want to come to Souris to hear the issues last night I can guarantee they’ll hear about them in the Legislature,” said Souris-Elmira MLA Colin LaVie.
