Road Maintenance Plan Needed: Trivers

Hunter River – Maintenance of existing PEI roads should be planned at least 10 years in the future and the plan published for public review.

“Government knows when and how our roads were built, so they should be able to fairly accurately predict when roads are expected to need repair,” says Trivers.

Each year government brings capital and operating budgets to the floor of the legislature for debate.  Every year MLA’s must pose questions to the Minister of Transportation and attempt to find out what road work will be done and where.

Reliable and efficient transportation systems are necessary to move our goods to market.  This is especially important for our agriculture, fisheries and aquaculture industries.

“Roads are extremely important to Island residents and businesses, and everyone wants to know when roads will be re-surfaced or fixed.  Government needs to develop a long-term road maintenance plan, and release this plan to Islanders for review and input.  It just makes common sense,” concluded Trivers.
