Snow removal issues at Stanley Bridge roundabout were avoidable: Trivers

Stanley Bridge –  Ongoing snow removal issues at the new Stanley Bridge roundabout were avoidable had government listened to community concerns beforehand, says Rustico-Emerald MLA Brad Trivers.

Prior to the construction of the roundabout last summer concerns were raised by local residents during consultations around a number of issues, including winter snow removal and drivers navigating directly through the traffic circle.

At the time the government indicated that snow cover in winter wouldn’t provide a safety concern. However, now Trivers is hearing concerns from constituents that snow removal is providing an ongoing challenge and may result in snow being stockpiled in the middle of the roundabout which could provide even greater safety concerns.

“The issues raised by the residents before the roundabout was built are the same issues that government is now struggling to deal with,” said Trivers. “Perhaps  government should have listened more carefully to residents and tried out a simpler and cheaper four way stop solution last summer, prior to building the roundabout in the fall."
