Student excellence needs to drive school review

Georgetown – Parents and teachers need to make sure that improving student excellence is the driving principle of the MacLauchlan government’s school review, says Georgetown-St. Peters MLA and Opposition Education Critic Steven Myers.

“Student excellence is supposed to be the core principle of our school system. It’s going to be up to parents and teachers to make sure that the principle of student excellence doesn’t get lost and take a back seat to the MacLauchlan government’s agenda for education ,” says Myers.

A school review process was launched this week by the MacLauchlan that will review school populations in six out of ten families of schools in the province. The first round of public consultations for the six families of schools are scheduled to begin next week and Myers strongly urged parents to come out and participate in those meetings to learn more about what’s being proposed.
