Summerside-Wilmot deserves an elected representative: Ramsay

Summerside –  The people of Summerside-Wilmot deserve to have an elected representative in a timely fashion and the Progressive Conservative candidate for the district is calling on Premier Wade MacLauchlan to schedule a by-election as soon as possible.

“We have important issues that are affecting the people of our district daily like access to quality health care, support for seniors, the higher cost of living, and the lack of good paying jobs. District 21 has been without representation for over six weeks now and I want the opportunity to represent the people of Summerside in the Legislature,” says Summerside-Wilmot PC candidate Brian Ramsay.

A vacancy in Summerside-Wilmot was created by the sudden resignation of former MLA Janice Sherry on August 1. Since then all four parties have held nomination conventions and selected candidates with the Liberal party being the last party to select its candidate last evening. Provincial law stipulates that a by-election must be called within six months of a vacancy being created.

“The Premier has basically ignored this district since the last election and now is trying to make up for lost time with a whirlwind tour of photo ops and appearances. The time to be paying attention to the needs of Summerside-Wilmot was over the last 18 months, not the last 18 days,” says Opposition Leader Jamie Fox.
